I really wish games would steer away from the Fortnite-esque menu screens. Being forced to sit through the rewards screen at the end of the match was super annoying, and you can't see your stats until that whole thing is done. I didn't find myself needing to travel across the map once I found where the action was for a particular round. The action was more about dodging and catching balls, and maybe some help from minor obstacles. Some of the levels were very big but the action would always stay focused on small portions of the map. The level designs had me scratching my head a bit.

Plus it made the ultimate bomb ball very powerful for the same reason. My friends and I discovered that by just doing the flip throw, players had to use the audio cues to dodge or catch the ball since they couldn't look high enough to see the ball coming at their head which made it infinitely harder for them to avoid. My biggest criticisms were the FOV and preventing players from looking up over their head past a certain degree. If EA's ability to properly market the game henceforth, and makes sure it doesn't go down the same path as Rocket Arena, I see it has a decent chance to become popular.Īpologies for the long rant, but obviously I'd like to know your opinions as well, preferably if you were an alpha/beta-tester. Aside from some of the special balls (which some were more annoying to deal with), I'd describe the gameplay as pure chaotic fun.

You can be thrown by anyone, and even be thrown up in the air like an explosive mortar round, exploding the area of impact. Turning yourself into a dodgeball is also crazy fun. It's also complex enough to involve forms of deflecting dodgeballs, passing them, fake throws, and even hook shots and lob shots. It's simple enough that you can pick up and play, with the ability to throw dodgeballs without aiming, catching them in the air, double jumping, and dashing. After playing it, I'm more disappointed in EA's marketing if anything.

After witnessing that disappointing trailer, I was still intrigued by a dodgeball-type game. My first interaction for this game was during the Nintendo Direct. For those who got were able to access the game this weekend, what'd you think of the game? Did the controls feel tight? Was it fun and entertaining? Did you find yourself playing for hours or only for a few minutes? Do you think the game will succeed in the future?
